"In a world that is often portrayed as light and dreamy, I wanted something to represent the opposite. The spiral of pain, challenge, continuum. The start of my knee surgery recovery was the hardest - my support network seemed to drop off, people would check in less. keep living their lives. I could hardly drag myself out of bed to do physio, surrounded by travellers surfing the breaks that I used to surf. When I asked my surgeon if I’d ever surf again, he would say: ‘I hope so.’
But hope was little, and the spiral of pain is something less spoken of. This ring represents the hope that you might need to keep going, when there is no light at the end of the tunnel, when all hope is lost. This ring represents that pain is inevitable, and sometimes the world is a dark place; but you are not alone in the darkness.
